Structured wiring is a cabling system, currently category 5e or 6, which supports both voice and data transmissions.
This type of cabling is commonly referred to as a Local Area Network (LAN).  The object is to cable the premises to every foreseeable position installing a double or quad outlet.

From each workstation, the cables are run back to a central point and terminated on a patch panel in a data cabinet.  At the data cabinet the individual outlets are patched to either a data or voice port, allowing the outlets to accomodate computer or phone.

This type of cabling system allows for total flexibility, and any moves or changes can be carried outby the client without the need of an engineer call out or further cable installation.
